PLS has earned the right to become the exclusive unloading partner for a massive grocery chain, replacing seven different vendors. Beginning with a single site, PLS’ superior performance and service commitment impressed the customer to the point where they contracted with us for another four sites. Building on the in depth knowledge we gained of their business, we were then able to uncover additional cost-saving opportunities for the chain, resulting in our being awarded an additional fifteen sites.
Transitions were completed seamlessly over 3 months including assignment of a dedicated Field Operating Director and development of custom reporting to track information vital to the customer’s business.
The result? Our customer reports that PLS’ efficiency and standardization of services has reduced overall throughput cost per case, helped them achieve greater sales, and given them a clear competitive advantage!
Boosting Productivity at a Retail Distribution Center
A major nationwide retailer was using three different temporary services for unloading at its Import Distribution Center. The hourly pricing rates were eating into the customer’s profits.
PLS studied the customer’s business and realized that dedicated on-site management, accompanied by a fixed cost-per-load pricing model would not only increase efficiency but dramatically lower costs. We designed a six month trial to prove the business case.
The result? At the end of the trial period, the client was completely convinced. Not only did they award us all of that Center’s unloading business, they realized that the more they outsourced to us, the more they saved! The retailer expanded the partnership to handle selecting – and to cover two more of their Distribution Centers!
Providing an Easy Transition for a Food Service Giant
PLS’ exemplary service at two locations so impressed this major food service company that they named PLS one of seven National Preferred Vendors in 2004. Since that time, we have been able to demonstrate such ease of transition and cost efficiency that we now serve a total of ten locations.
We have developed customized reporting to help track carrier and vendor performance and also worked with the customer to specify Key Performance Indicators for unloading and receiving.
The Result? The customer has noted a significant reduction in cost per case and reduced unloading time system wide!
